Returning TMYO 2019-20 Members
Returning members are not required to audition for V- TMYO unless you are interested in moving from Symphonic Strings to Philharmonic Orchestra.
New Members
New members are required to audition. Please select NEW MEMBER on the program registration form, and you will be prompted to schedule an online audition. Registration is open on August 3.

V – STRING ORCHESTRA
16-week program
Symphonic Strings/String Concertino
Mondays, 5:30pm – 6:45pm
This program will include weekly zoom rehearsals focused on the chosen virtual string orchestra video repertoire.
Students in this orchestra will play at the Symphonic Strings/String Concertino level.
This Orchestra, led by Conductor Colleen Strom, provides entry-level string orchestra training to student ages 6 and up who wish to gain confidence, experience, and ensemble skills with other musicians. Their season includes two performances and weekly rehearsals that focus on technique, ensemble performance skills, basic string repertoire, and music theory. Students in Symphonic Strings will perform two concerts a year.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: String orchestra for musicians ages 6 and up who wish to gain confidence, experience, and ensemble skills with other musicians. To audition for this ensemble, musicians must have played their instrument for at least 6 months, and demonstrate basic sight-reading skills. The Orchestra Excerpts for Season 2020-21 the same as 2019-20. For returning students, we hope you enjoy the opportunity to improve. There will be a video audition link provided in the registration form.

V – STRING ORCHESTRA
16-week program
Symphonic Strings/String Concertino

Students in this orchestra will play at the Symphonic Strings/String Concertino level.
This Orchestra, led by Conductor Sandy Neel provides string orchestra training to predominantly middle school-aged student musicians who read music and have at least three years of playing experience on their instruments. This orchestra provides an intermediate string orchestral experience featuring exclusive training opportunities with Florida Orchestra musicians in sectionals, weekly rehearsals that focus on technique, ensemble performance skills, and intermediate string repertoire. Students in Symphonic Strings will perform two concerts a year and are encouraged to participate in TMYO community outreach concerts scheduled throughout each season.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Intermediate string orchestra for musicians ages 6 and up to hone ensemble skills and performance poise. Musicians who wish to audition for this ensemble must have played their instrument for at least three years, and can demonstrate strong sight-reading skills. The Orchestra Excerpts for Season 2020-21 the same as 2019-20. For returning students, we hope you enjoy the opportunity to improve. V – FULL ORCHESTRA
16-week program
Symphony Orchestra/Philharmonic
Mondays, 6:30pm – 7:45pm
This program will include weekly zoom rehearsals focused on the chosen virtual full orchestra video repertoire.
Students in this orchestra will play at the Symphony/Philharmonic level.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
This orchestra will perform advanced literature and arrangements with an emphasis on ensemble playing, intonation, complex rhythmic study, and quality tone production. Musicians who wish to audition for this ensemble must demonstrate mastery of the skills needed to perform the required excerpts and have strong sight-reading skills. The Orchestra Excerpts for Season 2020-21 the same as 2019-20. For returning students, we hope you enjoy the opportunity to improve. Scales: String Instruments: Play either ONE major scale and arpeggio or ONE melodic minor scale and arpeggio. All scales and arpeggios are to be MEMORIZED. 3 octaves up to 3 sharps or 3 flats. 1 to 2 octaves for double bass with no displacement. Scales and arpeggios must be played in even eighth notes using separate bows. Quarter note = 60-80
Scales: Wind and Percussion Instruments: Prepare Chromatic scale slurred full range of the instrument, and major and melodic minor scales with arpeggio up to 4 sharps and 4 flats if range permits, tongued up and slurred down — all scales memorized, and performed in sixteenth notes at a minimum tempo of quarter note=60

V – FULL ORCHESTRA

Students in this orchestra will play at the Symphony/Philharmonic level.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Advanced full orchestra open to students up tp the age of 21. The Symphony Orchestra will perform full-scale works from the repertoire, and provide rigorous, musically rich training of young musicians in preparation for advanced study in the nation’s finest music schools and conservatories. Musicians who wish to audition for this ensemble must demonstrate mastery of the skills needed to perform the required excerpts and have strong sight-reading skills. The Orchestra Excerpts for Season 2020-21 the same as 2019-20. For returning students, we hope you enjoy the opportunity to improve.
