COMPETITION SCHEDULE

October 22 — Finalists announced
October 28 — Concerto Competition
Spring Concert, May 2020 — Winner performs with the TMYO Symphony Orchestra

ELIGIBILITY
The Concerto Competition is open to current members of the TMYO Symphony Orchestra in 11th and 12th grade. All orchestral instruments are eligible to audition, excluding piano.

REPERTOIRE
Candidates are strongly encouraged to select concerti from the standard repertoire. Students may be asked to change their selection if scores are not available or require rental.

All application materials are due by OCTOBER 18, 2019.

AUDITIONS
The Concerto Competition Jury will convene on October 28, 2019. Finalists should provide two copies of their music for the judges. It is recommended that finalists perform their complete selection (full movement) with accompaniment. For finalists performing the entire concerto, the jury may request excerpts of works which exceed 15 minutes in length.

RESULTS
Competition results will be emailed on or before October 30, 2019.

1. ESSAY INSTRUCTIONS

Concerto Competition applicants must prepare an essay describing why they enjoy performing the selected concerto. Essays shall be between 250 and 500 words. Email essays to nancy.lorenzen@tmyo.org.

2. TEACHER RECOMMENDATION

Applicants must have their private teacher provide a statement to the TMYO recommending the applicant for the Concerto Competition. Recommendations should be emailed to nancy.lorenzen@tmyo.org.
